Welcome to the Gerry LaFemina homepage,
here you'll learn about various literary
projects and events that I'm involved in or
interested in; furthermore, updates on
book releases and other publications; a
schedule of readings, workshop and
conference appearances; and information
regarding the publications of family, friends
and former students may all be found here.
Furthermore, links to various literary
organizations, including the Association of
Writers and Writer Programs (AWP), small
presses, and literary journals can be found
here as well. If you see anything missing,
let me know.
There are lots of projects I'm involved in
these days. The most notable are Review
Revue and the Frostburg Center for
Creative Writing.
Review Revue is a tabloid style literary
journal, Review Revue is the pet project of
poet Dennis Hinrichsen and yours truly. A
tri-quarterly publication, RR will feature
reviews, essays, and interviews focusing
on the traditional lyric and meditative
poetry.
Review Revue
The Frostburg Center for Creative Writing
has been doing a lot of great things for the
literary arts in the Frostburg region,
including sponsoring readings, hosting
youth workshops, and promoting the
literary arts through Literature Comes Alive
readings in the community and the
publication of Nightsun.

Lastly, I now serve on the board of
directors of the Allegany Arts Council. The
organization supports all the arts in
Allegany County and the Western Maryland
region. If you're in the region, I hope you'll
stop in at their Saville Gallery. tell 'em Gerry

The News:

The good news keeps coming this
year. My next book of poems--The
Vanishing Horizon--was just accepted
for publication by Anhinga Press in
Tallahassee. Add that to successful
time playing with the Furious Hours
and all the other good stuff that's
been happening, and you get a good
year.

It's been a pretty amazing summer so
far: my residency at the Gershwin
Hotel was phenomenal, and it led to
the production of about 30 pages of
new poetry. I received a Pushcart
prize. The Controlled Burn Seminar
for Young Writers was a smashing
success, with 26 kids from four states
participating. Lastly, look for a bunch
of new poems in a variety of journals.

Lots of writing news these last few
weeks. First off, I just found out my
fiction manuscript, Proofreading
America and Other Stories, was
accepted for publication by Marick
Press. It will be out in the fall of 2009.
I also will be the artist in residence at
the Gershwin Hotel in New York this
spring. What a great time to be in
Manhattan!

Last month we had our first Winter
Heat Writer's Retreat, and it was a
smash success. Look for photos on
this website from the program soon on
the Winter Heat link.
Also, to advertise the Milton poetry
workshop coming up at the Lavinia
gallery, you can see an excerpt of a
previous workshop with me by clicking
here.

Happy Holidays, everyone. The news
is this: Allegany Magazine has named
me one of the 20 most fascinating
people in the County.
And here's a link to Jan Beatty
interviewing me on WYEP's "Prosody"
on December 5.

Lots of poetry gigs this fall, but the
major event for me is that I'm making
music again with a four piece, straight
a head punk-garage-rock band
tentatively named The Extinguished
Guests.

Figures from The Big Time Circus Book/
The Book of Clown Baby is officially out.
You can get it from Mayapple Press.
The Controlled Burn Seminar for Young
Writers is happening. This is, in other
words, a great start to a good
summer.

Well, obviously the biggest news is
the new domain name, and the new
website. The other news has to do
with the long awaited book of circus
prose poems: Pictures from The Big
Time Circus Book/ The Book of Clown
Baby will be out in April, including the
limited edition book with the pop up
big top.
